Shortly before the holidays began, the pupils at Teising Primary School were able to experience first-hand how
sustainable cooking using solar energy works. Their guest was Stephan Hansjakob, a vocational college teacher and
long-standing supporting member of Vet4Africa.
Together with the development aid organization EG Solar e.V., he had already donated a solar cooker to the primary
school last year. In perfect summer weather, Hansjakob gave the children a clear explanation of how the solar cooker
works and told them about his many trips to Africa.
The pupils watched with great interest as the sun’s rays heated the stove and the water began to boil after just a short
time. Sausages were then heated in the water; these, along with the bread rolls, had been donated by the Parents’
Association of Teising Primary School. During the discussion, it became clear to the children that waiting for food is
not just a practical necessity, but also helps to foster a greater appreciation of food.
Headteacher Bettina Mayer was delighted with the initiative: “It is particularly valuable when our pupils not only learn
about sustainability in the classroom, but can also experience it in a practical way. Experiences like this stay with them
for a long time.”
In the end, everyone agreed: the sausages cooked using solar energy tasted absolutely delicious. The initiative
combined environmental education, global responsibility and a shared experience.

In 2025, a workshop for the construction of solar cookers was set up at the University of Lubumbashi (DR Congo)
https://www.unilu.ac.cd/   in collaboration with the University of Hasselt (Belgium) https://www.uhasselt.be/en and EG Solar  ->

Sylvain also made the following comments which can be found at the end of the video.

Our Chairman, Hans Michlbauer, ran a construction course during the national Scout camp in Immenhausen (30 July – 9 August 2026).
A total of five solar cookers were built and put to use straight away on site.
